Volunteering Made Easy

Conversations to Remember is seeking outgoing college and high school student volunteers for virtual visits with residents in senior living communities who are lonely or just looking to expand their social circles. Our goal is to make the volunteering experience as easy as possible for our volunteers to put a smile on a senior’s face. All of our volunteering is 100{2c12c2b4dfbc6f1782d00548f278acc7f58f57eef8672ed65cba2f39ed9679d1} virtual, and can be done from your home, dorm, or any other area that is suitable. Volunteers do not need to drive anywhere themselves or enlist the assistance of a parent to drive anywhere. You will need an area that has good Internet access, so your video is undisturbed, and a device that is capable of making a video call. The software required for the video call resides on our website, and can be accessed without any download. As part of our training, volunteers are introduced to this software.

Since volunteering can be done from any place you choose, no extra time is required to travel to a volunteering location. We do ask, however, that volunteers arrive five minutes prior to the start of their visits, so that they can be on time for the residents who will be joining them. While we expect a commitment of one-hour for each call from our volunteers, we understand that the residents whom you’re visiting with may not have the attention span for a one-hour call, so your call may end early.

At the end of each call, we ask that each volunteer spend a few minutes completing our volunteer feedback form. This allows volunteers to inform us of any technology problems that might have occurred on the call, as well as to provide us with feedback about the call, and any other information related to student concerns. The feedback forms are required if the student wants their volunteer hours certified for school community service requirements.

Our program was designed to maximize participant safety. While virtual volunteering is inherently safer than volunteering outside the safety of your home or dorm, we have added additional safety by requiring that students always participate in visits in groups of two or three, ensuring that visits have a minimum of three to four participants.
